Shawna Howard Director of Orchestras @ McLean Middle School
Hi Everyone! I am so incredibly excited to be back at McLean MS for a fifth year! Last year, our orchestra had many successes and I am grateful for how much hard work our students put in to learning their instruments. Our 6th grade orchestra made 1st division at the Pride of Texas Music Festival at PinStack. At the middle school level, our orchestra received perfect sweepstakes rating from all judges at our UIL competition. They also received 1st Division ratings at the Alamo Showcase of Music in San Antonio. At the individual level, we had many students receive gold medals at Solo & Ensemble as well as many who successfully auditioned into the FWISD Region Orchestra. I am incredibly excited to be the director at these wonderful schools and know we will have many more successes throughout this orchestra season.
I wanted to spend a little time in this letter giving you some information about myself. I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University where I received a Bachelors and Masters of music education. I have public school orchestra teaching experience at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I also worked part-time with a youth orchestra in KY directing their outreach program for urban youth. String instruments are my primary instruments and I have played the violin since the 3rd grade! When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my husband Jordan, my two kids, and our dog Maddie. I am also serve on the worship team at my church where I will play for our Sunday services.
